The Math Operation action lets the system seamlessly handle any calculations needed by adding them to a workflow, where they can be used to maintain score metrics or total fields. For example, this function can be used to give scores to leads based on their responses and activities in a marketing campaign.
Setting It Up #
Select the field you want to apply the Math Operation on. This can be any numeric field in the system, including dates and custom values.
Select the operation you want to apply—the math function such as subtraction, addition, etc.
Add the value to perform the operation. The tag icon will allow you to choose the custom values you have created inside your system for this field.
Unless you want the result to create a new custom field, select the desired field to update with the math operation from the Save Result To Field dropdown menu.
Once you’ve selected a field or decided to leave it blank, click Save Action to keep the changes.
There are a few minor differences between using Date or Numeric fields, so let’s take a look.
Date Fields #
For date fields, the operations are limited to adding or subtracting. Once the operator is selected, enter the total days, months, and/or years.
Number Fields #
For numeric fields, you can Add, Subtract, Multiply, or Divide, as well as add multiple operations for the system to run. If you’ve added an operator you’d like to remove, click the trash can icon next to it.
The output of a math operation can be reused in subsequent workflow actions—for example, updating the total number of appointments a customer has booked with you or how many sessions a subscriber has used.
And there you go! This action helps you perform any necessary calculations related to a contact within the system, allowing you to easily qualify, actualize, and evaluate customers and opportunities as they interact with your business.
