Automating Copyright Year Update Using Custom Values

Automating Copyright Year Update Using Custom Values

Custom values are a flexible tool you have inside the system; they allow you to create dynamic entries that get updated automatically. One of the uses you can give to it is creating a footer for your pages that updates the copyright year automatically. Sounds useful? Let’s get into it.

Creating Your Footer #

Inside the Funnel or Website builder, click the plus sign icon to add a new section at the bottom of your page.

In this section, you can add as many columns and elements as you like. However, to add the Copyright Year, we’ll add a single column and text element.

Add the Copyright text, then click the Custom Value Icon.

Select the Right Now category and click the Year option.

Save and publish your changes. Once saved, click the eye icon to preview your site.

Once you’ve confirmed the information is correct, head back to the builder and click the save icon inside the section.

Save your footer as a global section for easy access.

From this point forward, the year will automatically update to the current year, eliminating the need for manual changes each year.

Frequently Asked Questions #

What are custom values used for here? #

Custom values create dynamic entries that update automatically. In this case, they let you build a footer whose copyright year always reflects the current year without manual edits.

How do I add the auto-updating year to my footer? #

Add a new section with a single column and text element, type your copyright text, click the Custom Value Icon, select the Right Now category, and choose the Year option.

How do I reuse the footer across pages? #

After confirming it looks correct, save the section and store your footer as a global section so it’s easy to access and apply on other pages.

The year isn’t updating correctly. What should I check? #

Make sure you selected the correct custom value for the current year. Some fields display the year a record was created or another year-related data point instead of the present year.

How do I revert the automatic year back to a manual entry? #

Simply remove the merge field and manually type the year as you did before.

Do I have to update the year every January? #

No. Once the custom value is in place, the footer year updates to the current year automatically, eliminating any manual changes each year.
